Dispersion Characteristics of Cellulose Nanocrystals in Water and Ethanol Using Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering and Scanning Probe Microscopy

چکیده
The dispersibility of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) differing ionic functional group content was investigated in both water and ethanol. CNC samples were prepared by hydrolyzing pulp with sulfuric acid (sulfate content: 0.35 mmol/g) included a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized material (carboxyl 2.0 mmol/g). To evaluate the CNCs each medium, measurement turbidity dispersed media small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) used for direct evaluation, scanning probe microscopy (SPM) as an indirect method. aqueous dispersant transparent, while ethanol cloudy. Transmittance lower TEMPO-oxidized CNCs, which contain many groups. sizes aggregates medium estimated preparing Guinier plots SAXS profiles. larger than those water, rate increase size greater CNCs. This tendency also seen SPM data, possibly due to dependence on numbers types surface

Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues
ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....
متن کاملX-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Probe Microscopy
Diffraction can occur when electromagnetic radiation interacts with a periodic structure whose repeat distance is about the same as the wavelength of the radiation. Visible light, for example, can be diffracted by a grating that contains scribed lines spaced only a few thousand angstroms apart, about the wavelength of visible light. X-rays have wavelengths on the order of angstroms, in the rang...

An X-ray scanning imaging technique using the integrated intensity of the smallangle X-ray scattering (SAXS) signal is presented. The technique is based on two-dimensional scanning of a thin sample section with an X-ray microbeam, collecting SAXS patterns at every scanning step using a two-dimensional detector. The integrated intensity within pre-defined regions of interest of the SAXS patterns...
